For soft water plants like certain *Rotala* species and Neon Tetras, maintaining a low GH is essential to prevent mineral deficiencies. Carbonate hardness (KH) measures alkalinity, buffering your tank against dangerous pH swings. Most successful Nature Aquariums strive for a slightly acidic to neutral pH (6.5-7.0) to maximize nutrient availability, which is generally achieved with a KH level between 3-6 dKH. Regular testing is paramount.
